Stop the Economic Crisis for Women Workers
Great news! The Paycheck Fairness Act (H.R. 1338 sponsored by Rosa DeLauro, D-Conn.) was passed by the Education and Labor Committee on July 24 without any harmful or weakening amendments. The House leadership intends to bring this bill to the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives as soon as THIS WEDNESDAY.

NO EXCUSES - Women Deserve Fair Pay
It has been a year since the House passed the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Restoration Act and we must demand that the Senate quit stalling and support a bill to restore our rights. Although opponents of women's fair pay have implied that the House-passed bill has "gone too far," they couldn't be more wrong.
Congratulate Obama & Biden
We did it! Women turned out in record numbers and we elected Barack Obama as the next president of the United States. Obama and his running mate Joe Biden have been entrusted with bringing change to this country during a time of crisis and Bush-induced cynicism. After all the dancing in the streets: What next?

HHS Needs a News Flash: Birth Control is NOT Abortion
This summer, women's rights advocates discovered an impending administration attack on birth control. After hearing a multitude of protests, Secretary Mike Leavitt of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services blogs that it wasn't his intent. Let's make sure it isn't.
Join NOW in Congratulating Del and Phyllis!
Longtime NOW members Del Martin and Phyllis Lyon have been leading feminists and lesbian activists since they founded the first lesbian organization in the 1950s. Together they wrote Lesbian/Woman, and Del wrote the groundbreaking book Battered Wives, among many accomplishments.
We all owe a great deal to these pioneers, and were delighted to see San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom honor them with the very first legal marriage of a same-sex couple in California.
Join us in sending congratulations and thanks to Del and Phyllis -- congratulations on their long-awaited legal marriage, after 55 years as partners, and thanks for many years of dedicated feminist activism and leadership.
Whose Conscience Is It, Anyway?
The Bush Administration has now published the rewritten rules on "conscience" and those of us in good conscience must register our outrage.
Send a Thank You Card to Hillary Clinton!
Hillary Clinton's campaign inspired millions of women across the country, and the increased female voter turnout has helped many women running for Congress or local office in those primaries.
Join us in sending a salute to Hillary Clinton, who said on June 3: "I made you -- and everyone who supported me -- a promise: to stand up for our shared values and to never back down. I'm going to keep that promise today, tomorrow, and for the rest of my life."
Tell the House: Stand Up for Children's Health!
We begged him not to and he did it anyway - President Bush, in only the 6th veto of his reign, turned his back on millions of low-income children in desperate need of health care.
Urge Congress to override the veto.
Take Action: YOU Can Promote Diversity in Media Ownership
A handful of big media conglomerates want to own even more TV stations, newspapers and radio stations than they already do. If we let this happen, it will spell disaster for the representation of women and people of color in the media.

Take Action!

An open letter to the House of Representatives, encouraging them to support the Indian Health Care Improvement Act (H.R.1328). "Over a million Native women and children face great disparities in their quest to lead healthy lives. Their often rural and low income circumstances make it more necessary than ever for them to have an improved Indian health care services and delivery."
Ask Bush to Protect Children's Health
Bush is threatening to veto a children's health care bill because he has his own proposal for funding, one that would cut off around 800,000 children from receiving the health care they so desperately need.
