This Just Scares Me
I saw the documentary Jesus Camp on A&E last night. This part really got to me.

Later in the film the children stand in front of the capital with the word "Life" taped over their mouths.
I'm not against children being in political rallies or being involved in political action. If my daughter asked me at young age what abortion was I would explain it to her. This kind of propaganda is dangerous. The way in which the woman says "don't be a promise breaker" is scary. Such a small sentence, but it could have a huge impact for the girls that are in that room and then young boys that are "warriors for Jesus".
I agree
I've seen that movie too. What scares me even more than the abortion stuff is what the kids were being taught about science at home. It scares me that they're being told lies about Global Warming, biology and even what happened to Galileo!
poor kids. I'm really stating to believe that indoctrination is child abuse.
I've heard alot of people say that this group is just a small, extreme sect of evangelical Christianity, but I went to a church not so different from that. There were some differences (we didn't speak in tongues and we were a mega-church), but same pro-bush, anti-Harry Potter, anti-choice, and anti-environmentalism. The ideas in that film are fairly mainstream in evangelical conservative Christianity.
Indoctrination
Indoctrination is not automatically child abuse. I know a bunch of pagan parents who are wonderful and while teaching their children their religion they still allow them to form their own opinions. However, THAT kind of indoctrination? It's ABSOLUTELY child abuse. Those kids will never be able to function in society properly. They will continue their lives as shells of human being. Watching that movie, I never wanted to hit a kid more in my life until I rememer that it isn't their fault, and we can only hope for the good of the world that at least ONE of those kids grows up and shaves a mohawk, get a tattoo, fights the power, fights global warming, rejects false dogma and hopefully lives their own life.
