I wanted to write a word about the passing of Tammy Faye Bakker Messner. I also wanted to write about the power of tears, and the power of
women who weep.

Growing up a Conservative Christian kid in America, I used to view Tammy Faye on the tube regularly. In my house come Sundays, TBN was the station of the hour, every hour. Tammy Faye always seemed ecstatic. As a little girl, although I was bored out of my mind having to watch TBN, I liked Tammy Faye because she seemed incredibly loving and kind. Of course, too, she often had her signature black rivers of happy-sad tears running down her face.

Hagar:

Hagar tied a knot
and slipped through it

she tapped her
skull to
her son's

and together they
dipped into the
river of life.

She could lead a battalion
to a place of
naked peace
if not for her flesh,
wrapped in butcher's paper.

She was unvisited by grace

What do women need most?

There are endless opinions on just what it is women need the most in this world-- amongst feminists and in feminist theory there have been many answers given as to what this need might be.

What do you think it is? More confidence? Weapons? Their own country? Food? More love for their mothers? More love from their mothers? Or fathers? College education? A sense of completeness apart from lovers/family/children? A revolution or breakthrough in science, math or space travel? A womens martial art?

What is the common thing that womankind the world over needs?
