Hey, supergirls!
Thanks so much for welcoming me into the All-Girl Army! I'm really excited, because I feel that this is both a great, tight-knit community and a very necessary project- that is, bringing young women to understand feminism.
So, you might be wondering who I am. Or you might be rolling your eyes at this introduction, but I'm hoping it's the former. I'm Julia, a freshman in a suburban high school in Northern Virginia. I'm learning to adjust to high school and fit in without giving up my values, as well as history and science and Latin and all that other stuff. I love to sing and dance and speak out. I think life's often taken too seriously and that we need to inject a little crazy, immature humor sometimes.
I feel like I've always, always identified with feminism, and expressed an almost immediate interest once I found out what it was. I have a small, teen-run zine called Feminisme Publications (if you'd like to be involved, contact me) and a big mouth for spouting off on the issues. I frequently get in debates in real life and on the Internet, especially over issues relating to women's rights. I've found that it's something that girls of our age know about and believe in, but don't have the courage to really talk about openly. Once the subject is brought up, you'd be surprised at just how many girls fit in with our core values, but just have the wrong idea of feminism as a whole.
I really think the AGA can change all that, and I'm hoping to expand my feminist and activist repetoire and listen to other opinions through the AGA. All in all, I think you girls rock!
Love and hugs,
Julia
It's so good to see you
It's so good to see you getting started! Welcome to the AGA, Julia. I can't wait to read your blogs.
Welcome!
Glad to have you here - very much looking forward to hearing what you have to say.
Awesome, Julia! I want to
Awesome, Julia! I want to read one of your zines! How can I get my hands on one?
While our print distribution
While our print distribution is very small (although we now have an artist that really designs the cover, which is cool), you can see the current zine online and selected archives online, at:
www.geocities.com/feminisme_publications
(There haven't been new issues lately because of summer- with vacations, camps, all of that, many staffers could not write- so we're focusing on cleaning up the site and starting back up for an October issue.)
However, if you want a print version, they can be mailed for no cost.
Love and hugs,
Julia
Very awesome, and welcome,
Very awesome, and welcome, welcome. I'm a transplanted Northern Virginia myself, used to live in Springfield, Hayfield, Belvoir area. :)
Keep up the good work with that zine; since that movement sort of moved on, a lot of young women have lost a place to express and feel out their selves. How great that you're keeping the tracition alive. :)
