Personal Information

Biography

Military brat raised all around the US, her B.A. from the last place a woman should want to be (but she loved it anyway), back on the beach after a long hiatus.

I got into women's issues during the Supreme Court confirmation hearings of Alito, and I haven't looked back since. I admit I started out in reproductive rights, but reproductive rights are women's rights.

My sheroes

Gloria, of course, for whom I rock the mini skirt. Ayelet Waldman! Ruth Bader Ginsburg, my little sister, the women of Jane, Margaret Cho, WHO Director-General Margaret Chan

Personal goals

LAW SCHOOL! And by association, saving the world via a J.D./M.S.W.

To pass along this feeling of ownership and enfranchisement to the younger women in my life.

To help support the organizations that I love so well through volunteering and donations (ah, someday...).

To get a job with Planned Parenthood.

Bragging Rights

Publication of two theatre reviews in the Washington Post, my favorite news outlet ever.

Active in my campus chapter of the Feminist Majority Leadership Alliance (affectionately known as FMLA and basically a little sister chapter of FMF) and our Back Up Your Birth Control event (raising awareness on the ECP).

I am no longer afraid of the word "vagina."

Favorite books

The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay by Michael Chabon (wanna see a great woman? check out Rosa Saks), All the King's Men by Robert Penn Warren, The Story of Jane by Laura Kaplan, Against Our Will: Men, Women, and Rape by Susan Brownmiller (more than a great read, this book is so well researched and comfortably moves between the author's interjections and the facts she reports)

Favorite music

The Spill Canvas, Jack's Mannequin, Something Corporate, Bikini Kill, This Day & Age... Lisa Loeb, Ani, Heather Nova

Favorite Films

The Philadelphia Story, Moulin Rouge, Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, La vita e bella, Young Sherlock Holmes

Hobbies

reading, writing, editing, activism, reproductive rights, visiting my local coffee house, traveling, news, social criticism
